With the 2019/2020 reporting season behind us, we would usually be looking forward to the awards season – an occasion not only to celebrate the hard work our clients and colleagues have put into their projects, but also an opportunity for us all to connect away from deliverables and deadlines. 

 

While we have been supporting our clients in the preparation for this year’s award entries, it is becoming clear that 2020 is a time to look forward as well as back, and to focus on bigger challenges the world is facing. That said, what we’ve always enjoyed the most about award season is the chance to get to know our clients outside of work – something that becomes just a little more relevant while we are all waiting out 2020 in lockdown isolation. This means more to us than a sparkling ‘well done’ in the shape of a trophy. Last year, we were thrilled to enjoy both.

 

Anglo American won Best Annual Report (FTSE 100) at the IR Society Awards, while being highly commended both at the Corporate & Financial Awards and the IR Magazine Awards – a well-deserved reflection of the hard work the team had put into their 2018 report.

 

Landsec were nominated for the IR Society Awards’ Most Effective Overall Communication of Company Investment Proposition (FTSE 100) and Diageo were nominated for Best Strategic Report at the ICSA Awards 2019.

 

We were also proud to see Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) win Gold for the Best Printed Report – International at the Corporate & Financial Awards for their first ever integrated report. The jury specifically highlighted its great design and use of infographics, as well as the conversational style of the interview with the executives. A great acknowledgement of a successful first year project!

 

Awards provide not only validation for a job done well, but a benchmark for all businesses. We think that it’s no coincidence that the winners we celebrated this year have gone to companies that clearly demonstrate the value they bring to society through their reporting, and in the current climate we think this will be even more important.

  

While award ceremonies are on hold for 2020 and we adjust to the new normal, we will be following the award results on social media (and hopefully raising a virtual glass to this year’s winners), while looking forward to 2021 when we can hopefully return to celebrating our accomplishments together with our clients and teams in person.
